Hebrew - אֶת־ with definite direct objects - Free Biblical Hebrew - Lesson 33

When does אֶת־ mark the direct object and when does it not? Answer: it marks definite direct objects: Definite nouns include nouns with the definite article prefix -הַ (e.g. the house), nouns that have a definite possessor (e.g. his house, our house, the house of the man, Joseph's house, the land of Egypt, but NOT the legs of a man), and proper names and pronouns (e.g. Joseph, Israel, Egypt, her, us).
